Ledger Live Desktop

The Central Interface for Your Hardware Wallet

Ledger Live Desktop is the essential, secure software hub used to manage your portfolio, install necessary blockchain applications, and keep your device firmware up to date.

1. Portfolio

This is your global dashboard for tracking and visualization. It provides a non-custodial overview of all your connected crypto accounts.

  • Performance Metrics: View total balance, daily/weekly/yearly profit/loss, and percentage changes.
  • Asset Distribution Chart: A visual representation (pie chart) showing how your funds are spread across different cryptocurrencies.
  • Price History: Analyze the historical value of your portfolio over selected time frames.
*Portfolio data is for viewing only; transactions require the Accounts section and a connected device.*

2. Accounts

The operational hub for your funds. This is where you conduct transactions and manage specific crypto wallets.

  • Transaction History: Detailed list of all incoming and outgoing transactions for each specific asset (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
  • Send/Receive: Initiate transfer requests. **Crucially, the receiving address is verified on your Ledger hardware device.**
  • Add Account: Required to onboard a new crypto type. The corresponding app must first be installed via the Manager (Section 3).
*All 'Send' actions require a device connection and physical confirmation on the device screen.*

3. Manager

This section requires your Ledger device to be connected, unlocked, and authenticated. It is for device maintenance and security.

  • App Management: Install, update, or uninstall necessary blockchain apps (e.g., Bitcoin, Solana) onto your hardware wallet's memory.
  • Firmware Updates: Check for and install the latest **Operating System (OS)** for your Ledger Nano device (a critical security process).
  • Genuine Check: Verifies that your Ledger device is authentic and hasn't been tampered with.
*Updating firmware or installing apps must always be confirmed on the physical Ledger screen.*

Key Desktop Security Reminder

Ledger Live Desktop is a **read-only interface** that displays your public keys and balances. It is impossible for Ledger Live to access your private keys, which remain permanently locked inside the Secure Element chip of your device. Your keys never leave the hardware wallet, regardless of whether you are viewing your portfolio or managing accounts.
